New Medicare cards will be sent to Medicare recipients between April 2018 and April 2019 and, unlike the “old” cards, they will not have the recipient’s Social Security Number on it. That way your “identity” will be protected when you use the card in the future.
AARP suggests you destroy your old card when the new card arrives and be aware that scam artists may try to get your Social Security Number in the future by calling and saying they represent the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The SSA does not contact citizens via telephone and that should alert you that you are talking to a scammer. Hang up and contact the AARP Fraud Watch Network (——-) and let them know you’ve been contacted.
