Habitat for Humanity's director for Cape May County, Shawn Lockyear, outlined the organization's plans for this year and next and discussed Habitat's needs for the same period at a potluck dinner for volunteers at the Avalon Manor Community Hall.
Lockyear said Habitat plans to build two houses in both 2014 and 2015 and has already begun the process of determining what families will qualify for those homes. In addition to those plans, Habitat is looking to the community for support in its fundraising activities, volunteers to work on the new houses and contributions of warehouse or other space to store household goods and building materials that are donated to the organization.
"There's a lot to be done and we are going to need all of the help we can get to accomplish our goals," she said.
Tops on her list is the upcoming Habitat Golf Tournament at the Stone Harbor Golf Club on Monday, June 23. She is looking for hole sponsors, prizes for auctions after the tourney and as many golfers as possible to participate in this year's event. The fee per golfer is $175, which includes a cocktail party and hors d'oeuvres after the tournament.
