Jean Conti Marches Again

The first time I wrote about Jean Conti in CMC Digest she was part of a small group that was protesting the war in Iraq. Carrying signs saying “Stop The War,” they were standing at a major intersection in Rio Grande, N.J., near the southern tip of that state.

Most of the motorists and truckers were positive in their comments and gave them a “thumbs up,” but there were others who were not as kind in their comments. That was in 2013.

The next time I wrote about Jean was when she and her daughters Lia and Rebecca participated in “The Second Annual Women’s March” in Ocean City, N.J., on February 23, 2018.

And now it seems that Jean Conti and her fellow marchers have hit the big time recently with their photo featured on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC. Jean is at the far right in the first row in that photo holding a sign that says “Against Any Wall.”

At this point, all I can say is “Thank God for Jean Conti and others like her who carry the banners and march for all of us. They are the guardians of democracy.”

And, if you don’t believe that, you should read the book “How Democracies Die” by Steven Levisky and Daniel Ziblatt. It says it all.
