Tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will go up 5 percent in 2015, effective January 4. It is the seventh year in a row that the Turnpike Commission has increased the tolls.
For those who will be traveling the turnpike from the border of New Jersey to the Ohio border, the new toll will be $46.05, up from the current $43.85. Not enough to cancel your plans probably, but with the cost of gasoline on the rise it's certainly getting more expensive every year.
On the other hand, drivers using E-ZPass will get a discount of at least 35 percent, according to the Turnpike Commission — and about 73 percent of turnpike customers use E-ZPass.
With so many infrastructure problems being ignored these days, it's good to know that the tolls are being used to pay for statewide highway projects, as well as upkeep of the turnpike. There are some things you can't put a price on.
