Registration for the Summer Reading Program at the Cape May County libraries began June 23 and the competition for prizes will continue until August 15, when the winners of Amazon gift cards will be determined by the number of pages they read during that period. The three categories are adults, teens (13-18 years old) and children.
Over and above the competition, the joy of reading is the real prize and the results last year were really great. Adults read a total of 819 books during the eight-week period, while teens racked up 2,472 books and children whipped everyone with a total of 15,231!
The library folks remind us that the "reading" competition includes not only books, but movies and video games — or as they put it, "basically anything you get from the library counts."
You can register online or at a library branch and then submit reviews at the branch or online. Log entries do not have to be published, but you must complete logs to qualify for prizes. The grand prize is a $100 Amazon Gift Card; 2nd place is a $40 card, and the 3rd through 5th prizes are each a $20 card.
And just a reminder — the three-day book sale at the Main Library on Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House will be held August 25, 26 and 27.
