The "Welcome Home Show" played to a packed house at Bruni's Pizza in Rio Grande, NJ. on Saturday July 15 as the host of the show on WIBG radio, Joe Griffies, welcomed the veterans of several wars to this special broadcast.
On hand to greet his "guests" was Tom Feraco and members of his family, who own both Joe Canal's Liquor store and the pizza restaurant in the same center. The pizzas and drinks were "on the house" — and everyone had a good time.
But the focus of the two-hour show was two former U.S. ambassadors — Phil Murphy, a former Ambassador to Germany who is running for governor of New Jersey, and Theresa Tull, former Ambassador to Guyana and Brunei, who was among the last Americans to leave Saigon when that city fell to the North Vietnamese at the end of the Vietnam War.
Other guests included World War II Navy veteran and former Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Joe Rizzo; Dennis Murphy, Joe Walters, Bill Davenport and Bob Carullo, all Vietnam veterans; Larry Hogan and Beau Weisman, Korean War veterans; New Jersey State Senators James Beach and Jeff Van Drew; New Jersey State Assemblymen and veterans Bob Andrzejczak and R. Bruce Land, and Navy veteran and ESPN national correspondent Sal Paolantonia.
